Thousands of British Muslims march in the streets of London to mark the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussein. Black-clad Muslims marched in commemoration of the annual occasion held to mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his 72 companions in the battle of Karbala (in Iraq) on the day of Ashura in the year 680 CE. Imam Hussein and his loyal companions had risen up against the tyrant of their time. Now every year, millions of people, mostly Shia Muslims, travel to Karbala to commemorate Arba’een. It is one of the world's largest religious gatherings. The event is also marked in other parts of the world including Iran, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Kashmir, India, and Pakistan.
